1. General Information

1.1 What is it?

The Theta Pi Encryption System is a calculator-based encryption program. All right, I'll admit it's not PGP. And I can't guarantee that the NSA won't find some way to crack even my most secure algorithm. But even so, it's a great, portable and easy way to get your top-secret ideas and messages down without any tricky pen-and-paper methods, and is probably more secure. For example: Let's say you have an urgent message that you have to send to your friend a few rows over in math class, but you're worried about getting caught. Or, perhaps, you have a few choice test answers that you need to hide before your teacher checks your calculator. Or you want to write a few notes in a diary but are worried about snooping siblings. By using EncPro, all the unsuspecting snooper will be able to find is a string of seemingly random characters, and no way to turn them into the actual message. And, if you're not into securing everything, the added simple shift and cryptogram algorythms allow you to make your own word puzzles. Best of all, it's portable and can go anywhere your TI goes, so you can secure your private messages almost anywhere (note: EncPro does not work while immersed in water, in extremely hot or cold temperatures, while on fire, etc.)

1.2 Why did I write it?

The first and foremost reason is that I have always been interested in cryptography, so I decided to write a program of my own to make it easier to encrypt and decrypt messages. The next reason was that I was bored in math class, and needed something to do. The last reason is that I wanted to show that TI programming can expand beyond purely mathematical or gameboy-type material to actually do something useful.

1.3 Why did I write a readme and manual for a TI program?

One: This program is complicated, with a lot of options that are not really explained at all in the prograsm itself. Two: all distributed programs, computer or otherwise, should come with a read me. I don't know why, it's just the way it is.

1.4 Bug Reports

This program uses a number of different variable types. If you use a program that writes in (list 5) or [A], or on Pictures 1-3, you may damage your encryption information, meaning that you would have to generate a new list, and would not be able to decrypt any previously encrypted material. It is a good idea to back up this information before using any questionable programs.

1.5 Updates from Alpha Version 0.99 • Changed over to modular "algorithm" system • added ENCPROS 1-3 • added ENCPROSP • added PICPROS 1-2 • fixed menu interface • got rid of buggy "codeword" encryption coding system • fixed title logo • added contact information
